Life Span

Female tarantulas generally live longer, in some species up to 20-30 years. The male tarantula life is much shorter. A male normally lives for 2 or 3 years after maturing. Keep in mind that a life expectancy in captivity is usually shorter. This is due to nutritional deficiency or lack of knowledge of husbandry needs. A more realistic life expectancy for a female in captivity would be 6-14 years and a male 3-6. I suspect the climb in the male tarantula's life expectancy in captivity is due to the dangers that are involved in the breeding ritual.
